The Jessie and Bandit Animal Care Fund manages donations received by Canada West Veterinary Specialists to provide assistance to owners of pets being treated at our hospital in appropriate cases.

Charlie C.

Charlie C.

Charlie was assessed by the Canada West Neurology Department in September 2016 after he suddenly became unable to walk.  After examination Charlie was suspected to have Fibrocartilaginous Embolism (FCE), a condition where there is a blockage to the blood vessel of the spinal cord.

While hospitalized, Charlie received daily physiotherapy, including hydrotherapy, and he showed improvement each day. A few days later, Charlie was discharged from the hospital with continual physiotherapy as instructed by our rehabilitation team.

With consistent rehabilitation sessions and rechecks Charlie is doing amazing now and is walking without support.

“Charlie is a fun loving guy who considers himself to be a lap dog. He loves to be outside either laying in the sun (when it's around) or finds low hanging branches to assist himself in scratching his back :) He recently celebrated his 5th Birthday and loves chasing around his new toy to play tug with or chew . Charlie has regained most of his mobility . On days when his family wants to go the beach or for longer walks, he loves to accompany them in his favorite blue wagon .

Without the Jessie Bandit Fund, our beloved pup Charlie would not have been able to recover in the way that he has . My son and I are filled with so much gratitude , Thank you from the bottom of our hearts”
